Natural Iceland: The Surreal Landscape

In Europe, Iceland, Photography by Katelyn6 Comments

There are no words for the raw beauty of this sub-Arctic island.

Actually, I think Stephen Markley says it best in his book, Tales of Iceland or “Running with the Huldufolk in the Permanent Daylight:

“The problem with driving around Iceland is that you’re basically confronted by a new soul-enriching, breath-taking, life-affirming natural sight every five goddamn minutes. It’s totally exhausting.”

And because I’m totally obsessed with Iceland, I’m going to take a mini-break from my summer adventures in mainland Europe to show you a few of my favorite pictures. I’ll be recapping Iceland soon… you know, after I finish Prague, Brussels, and Mexico City… Jeez, am I really this far behind?

But, seriously. You’ll have about 9 million posts of Iceland coming up in December. In the meantime, just know you need to book a ticket NOW! I’m already trying to figure out how to get back there to see the Northern Lights between now and my Great Escape.

Eyjafjallajokull Iceland volcano glaicer

Remember a few years ago when a volcano erupted in Iceland and halted air traffic to Europe for a week? Meet Eyjafjallajokull, the glacier volcano!

Have you been to Iceland? What’s your favorite natural Iceland spot?

  1. Hey,
First of all great pictures ! And secondly, ‘poor you’ having to go to Iceland in the middle of the Europe tour 🙂

  2. Wow, there’s some beautiful pictures here! I haven’t yet been to Iceland but I’m desperate to go. I just can’t decide whether to go when there’s snow on the ground or during the summer when there’s more light to see everything! Maybe I’ll just have to go twice… 🙂

Thanks! I definitely think you need to visit Iceland in both seasons. I know I want too! Northern Lights or the Midnight Sun? How could you pick just one?

  3. Hi! I saw that you visited Iceland in October. My husband and I are considering visiting this October and I’m wondering if you ever did a full re-cap of your trip/itinerary? I’d love to hear any advice and tips to have the fullest trip but budget friendly!!! TY!

Hi Mandi. Thanks for stopping by! I have not written anything yet, but will be in the next month. I’ve been traveling in Central America where the internet is super slow. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. If not, stay tuned soon! 🙂
