There is more to New York City than the island of Manhattan. From Brooklyn to the Bronx to Queens, it could take you a lifetime to explore the best of everything New York City has to offer. In recent trips to NYC, I’ve explored mostly Manhattan but have branched out to Brooklyn and even Harlem. There is just so much to discover.
Brooklyn is every hipster’s dream town. Over the years this dirty city turned into NYC’s most desirable borough, pricing out many of the longtime locals. Cross over the infamous Brooklyn Bridge and you’ll discover a delightful neighborhood filled with green parks, beautiful architecture, and delicious restaurants, cafes, and pubs featuring food and drinks from around the world.
Located a few blocks from the historic Brooklyn Bridge, Aloft New York Brooklyn is a comfortable and modern hotel. Rooms are loft-style with a plush platform bed and spacious bathroom complete with a bliss shower. The coffee is always free and the rooftop lounge offers great views of the city.
Williamsburg has become one of the most popular Brooklyn neighborhoods in the past few years. Stay just a hop, skip, and a jump away at the Hotel Le Jolie. This budget-friendly two-star hotel offers Tempur-Pedic beds with plush down pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets. Enjoy a free healthy breakfast and free parking, which is rare in the city.
Queens is home to several iconic New York attractions, including the home of the NY Mets, Queens Botanical Gardens, and New York’s JFK Airport. JFK airport is the fifth busiest airport in the U.S. and there is a good chance you’ll fly in or out of it at some point in your life.
The Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel is the perfect hotel for an early morning flight or a long layover. The hotel is located just minutes away and has a free airport shuttle bus that runs 24/7. The beds are comfortable, the Wi-Fi is free, and you’ll get a good night’s rest before your next flight.
If you’re looking for a little more luxury near the airport then you will want to stay at Hilton New York JFK Airport Hotel. Rooms start at $279, but you’ll get a comfortable king-size bed with a down comforter and a free ride to the airport. And, there’s even a heated saltwater pool to relax in.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and head up the river to the small town of Milton, New York. This charming town nestled on the banks of the Hudson is just a few minutes’ drive from Saratoga Springs and Lake George. It’s the perfect autumn escape for the busy New Yorker.
Stay at the luxury bed and breakfast, Buttermilk Falls Inn Hotel. This 10-room B&B has wood burning fireplaces, modern and rustic designed rooms, and a beautiful spa. You can enjoy many hiking trails and gardens nearby, and you can explore the working Millstone farm where much of the inn’s food is grown and produced.
There is more to New York City than just Manhattan. It’s time to get off the island and explore.
